Health problems, injuries and illness can happen at any time. At Ascot Vet, we understand how worrying it can be when your pet isn’t feeling their best. That’s why we want you to know that we’re here for you and your pet every step of the way.
What is a Specialist Referral?
If your pet comes down with an unusual illness or injury, they will be initially assessed and managed here at Ascot. In some cases, we may recommend your pet to a specialist with the advanced equipment and expertise we need to help accurately diagnose and treat your pet. Similarly to doctors with people, sometimes vets need assistance from outside help (like Oncologists). We only work with the most qualified and reliable specialists who share a similar approach to caring for your pets. The other common reason we may recommend specialist referral is when your pet requires treatment and observation by vets overnight when our hospital is closed.
When is a Specialist Referral Necessary?
If a disease is particularly complicated or severe, your pet might need extra help from a vet who trained further in a specific field. Areas of specialty include:
- Internal Medicine
- Complicated surgeries like spinal problems or reconstructive surgeries
- Oncology
- Specialist imaging & lab tests
- Critical care and overnight care
Once your pet has visited their specialist, we will work with them to determine the best treatment possible to help your pet feel better. The friendly team at Ascot will talk you through the treatment process, answering your questions and helping you understand how to best care for your pet at home.
